We, at the Department of Information Technology, have been striving to   improve our service and facilities over the past years. Our young and   dynamic team is constantly on the lookout for new discoveries and new   ways to improve the overall performance in terms of service and   facilities. The major goals and accomplishments for the year 2009-10 are   as under: 
 Network infrastructure and its Usage
 The University has established state of the art Fiber optic Gigabit   Network which connects Administrative Departments, Academic Blocks and   the Hospital with more than 600 active nodes.
 Higher Education Commission (HEC) along-with PTCL as their service   provider has initiated project "PERN2" through which high speed   connectivity will be ensured. Presently, under PERN2 the available   Internet bandwidth is 30Mbps as the number of Internet/Network users has   increased significantly.
 
 Establishment of Campus-wide WiFi Network
 LUMHS Campus-wide WiFi Network is one of its kind in any public sector   medical university which provides mobility to the users to access   resources from anywhere in the campus with the integration of all forms   of communications including voice, video and data. There are 135   registered WiFi users and as per connectivity statistics, 50 users use   this facility on daily basis. Nuclear Institute of Medicine &   Radiotherapy (NIMRA) Jamshoro, Institute of Biomedical Technology (IBT),   LUMHS and Peoples Nursing School (PNS) LUMHS Jamshoro has been provided   WiFi connectivity in order to use campus resources.
 This state-of-art Campus wide WiFi network and WiFi hotspot on "BB   square" was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. S. Sohail H. Naqvi, Executive   Director, Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Wednesday, October 07,   2009.
 
 Laptop for All
 The project "Laptop for All" was initiated   with an objective to provide laptops on interest free installments to   postgraduate students, faculty members and administrative staff in order   to empower them with technology and to boost research and development   activities at all levels. The phase - I of this project was successfully   completed with the distribution of over 100 laptops. Phase - II of this   project is underway and its proceedings will be finalized in the first   quarter of 2011.
 
 Establishment of Campus-wide Security and Surveillance System
 The project campus-wide security and   surveillance system was originated to provide maximum surveillance to   manage security in order to control vandalism and to deal with the   prevailing law and order situation which also coincide with the security   guidelines provided by Higher Education Commission and Government of   Sindh. The execution of this project has been started and technical   survey prior to equipment installation and deployment is in its final   stage.
 
 Establishment of Access Control, Queue Management and Time Attendance System
 The idea of establishing Access Control, Queue Management and Time   Attendance System was initiated to register proper attendance and track   access pertaining to students, faculty and administrative staff in order   to ensure productivity and compliance with quality standards. Moreover,   the said system is of prime importance when personnel seek to secure   important, confidential, or sensitive information and equipment. The   technical evaluation has been completed while the financial evaluation   is in its final stage. The execution of this project will be finalized   soon.

The new website include Web Mail, Web Search of the   entire site, Latest News and Events, important Circulars, Tenders and   Advertisements, University Telephone Directory, Admission Information,   Examination Schedule and Results, Virtual Tour of University, Digital   Resource Centre, Complete Information of Administration and Faculty with   their brief profile, JLUMHS, LUMHS Alumni, Student's Testimonial,   Complete Information of Ongoing and Completed Projects, History and   Future Vision of LUMHS.
 The website also include Quicklinks to External Resources   such as Higher Education Commission (HEC), College of Physicians and   Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP), Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC),   Pakistan Educational Research Network (PERN), National Digital Library,   National Testing Services (NTS), Massachusetts Institute of Technology   (MIT):OpenCourseWare (OCW).
