Department of Information Technology, Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences, Jamshoro (LUMHS) is pleased to announce a National Conference on Medical Informatics “NACMIN’06” on 28th May 2006. The event is graced by renowned national speakers, who will share their knowledge and experiences on the importance of Information Technology in the improvement of Medical and Health care services.

1. 7th FACULTY DEVELOPMENT COURSE, HIGHER EDUCATION COMMISSION

The Department of Learning Innovation Higher Education Commission, Islamabad is organizing 7th Faculty Development Course at Islamabad from June 13th to 09th September 2006. During this training course participants will be considered as on duty and stipend of Rs. 5000/= per month will be given to each participant, Free accommodation for out station participants on sharing basis and TA / DA as scheme policy for transit days only will be paid.

SCHEDULE OF INTENSIVE SURGICAL COURSE

3. 2nd WORKSHOP ON THE ROLE OF BIOSTATICS IN CLINICAL RESEARCH

A second workshop has been organized by Prof. Mukhtar Ahmed, Foreign faculty Professor in collaboration with the Department of Physiology LUMHS, Jamshoro on research methodologies entitled, “The role of Biostatistics in clinical Research” will be held on 22-23, May 2006.

1. It will be a 2 full day workshop starting at 9:00 AM and finishing at 1:30 PM. The venue is Medical Information Centre and its IT lab.
2. All postgraduate students who are involved or planning to get involved in clinical research are encouraged to register.
3. The maximum number of participants is 25.
4. The registration fee is Rs. 200.00 including light refreshment.
5. Daniel’s book on biostatistics will be used as reference. The following topics will be covered: Probability and its significance, Mean, Mode, standard error, standard deviation, Determination of sample size, Hypothesis testing, Confidence Interval of a mean, Chi square, t-tests, Analysis of variance and selection of appropriate significance test for date analysis.
6. Hand-out will be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring problems they are facing in performing statistical analyses.
